“Beating the Germans in vehicle dynamics has proven to be possible, but totally irrelevant. That isn’t where the market is.” - Bob Lutz, on Cadillac’s current lineup

Sad but true. Look at the popularity of crossovers. They have their advantages but vehicle dynamics isn’t one of them. Cadillac should probably be building stylish, modern, comfortable vehicles that are cheaper than the Germans and are decent to drive.

it’s not “sad,” it’s just reality. Driving is something most people do because they have to, not because they want to. it’s always been this way.

Cadillac’s real issue is that it refuses to incentivize leasing like BMW and Audi have. Also, most Cadillac dealerships seem to be tied in with another GM brand diluting the dealership experience and possibly in stock inventory. The experience you have buying the vehicle holds a lot of weight throughout ownership and the Germans (Acura & Lexus too) are crushing Cadillac in that department. However, used low mileage ATS’s seem to be very cheap (hope the same holds true for the V series) and are very nice to drive.

To a degree. A lot of the customers I have interacted with are middle aged and have white collar jobs but they want to stop buying and start leasing however Caddy doesn’t really support it so a V6 AWD ATS luxury is double an A4 or 335xi lease payment. Most of my older customer take one look at the CUE screen and ask where the Buicks are.

Meh, I guess a larger Problem is the dealership experience. Cadillac should have taken a close look at what Lexus and the German three do. That and prices.

The Escalade and XT5 pay the bills, just like the Cayenne and Macan do for Porsche. I guess what Cadillac needs is a real X5 and X6 fighter with longitudunal engines and rwd architecture. They’re stupid but they sell like hotcakes.

Yeah, owner experience is huge with luxury brands.

Wish they’d put a V8 in the ATS-V!

It’s sad for me, personally, that there will be less cars that I enjoy driving available for sale in the future from some makers. But yes, for the vast majority of people, a car is just an appliance.

And I’m all like BRAAAAAP , and heading to the track in the morning...

What’s the motivation for middle-aged, white collar folks to start leasing? Are these the people that are going to get into a new car every 3 years anyway?

Is part of the reason leases on Cadillacs are expensive compared with the Germans that the depreciation is greater/sharper?

Yeah essentially they like being in a new car more often than not and they don’t like rolling over money owed on their previous car. That’s probably 90% of them, 5% prefer to always be under warranty/maintenance plan, the last 5% is that the payment is cheaper. I would have to say the depreciation is a factor and that Cadillac does not incentivize leases like other GM brands.

The twin turbo V6 is pretty awesome but it does lack some character that an LT1 has. The noise it makes from the drivers seat is less than inspiring, however it sounds very nice from the outside, almost have to drive with the windows down.
